J. R. Hatcher
Disability Awareness Author

J. R. Hatcher is not just a survivor — he is a storyteller with purpose, a voice forged in adversity, and a leader in disability awareness whose work resonates with readers of all ages. His journey through traumatic brain injury (TBI) is gripping, emotional, and profoundly human. But what makes J. R. extraordinary is how he transforms that journey into stories that educate, empower, and inspire.

A TBI survivor with an IQ of 115, J. R. lives in the space between what the world expects of him and what his brain injury allows.

Outsiders often assume he’s fully able-bodied — yet the invisible complexities of TBI shape every moment of his life. Instead of hiding those challenges, J. R. brings them forward with honesty, humor, and heart.

He writes because he wants children, parents, teachers, and caregivers to understand what TBI survivors face — the triumphs, the setbacks, the confusion, the courage. His mission is simple and powerful: to make the invisible visible.

Today, J. R. lives in metropolitan Washington, DC, with his two long-haired chihuahuas and is currently collaborating with co-author A. L. Brooks on his third title — expanding his universe of empathy, resilience, and real-life insight.
