Alex Chew — A Life That Refuses to Stand Still

Alex stepped into adulthood early, becoming a father at eighteen and learning responsibility through real‑world experience long before he ever entered a classroom. In 1993, he joined the United States Marine Corps, driven by duty and determination. A training injury changed everything, leading to an Honorable Medical Discharge as a Lance Corporal—but it didn’t stop him. It redirected him.

That pivot became a pattern: every setback turned into a new chapter.

 

He explored creativity with a Hollywood cameo in Titus Andronicus (1999), then dove into academia with relentless focus. He earned his A.A., then a B.S. in Physics from the University of South Florida, tutoring students along the way. Six months of teaching high‑school math sparked a deeper calling—graduate studies at Florida State University, where he earned an M.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry.

For over a decade, Alex taught chemical and biological sciences across northern Florida, shaping minds at Florida State University, Tallahassee Community College, North Florida College, and Chipola College. Then came another transformation: five years as a controls and electrical engineer at NASA’s Stennis Space Center, contributing to missions that pushed human exploration forward.

​

Today, Alex lives in North Florida/Tallahassee with Amelia, their hen Penny, their fish, and two cats. He hikes, rides motorcycles, takes long road trips, plays volleyball, and drinks coffee like it’s a love language. His philosophy—“Time in the market is better than timing the market”—reflects a life built on endurance, patience, and the courage to evolve.
